Forget The Past.
Akibrus was born to an ex-Dalish Elf in the Anderfels. His mother had been sold, pregnant, to an Anderfellan merchant as a bride. The man was sterile and could not have his own children, so he sought to purchase from elves that the Tevinter merchant brought through near the border. He had his pick, many of the women had been abused and wound up pregnant from such abuse. But Akibrus' mother seemed to be the prettiest one.
Remember Where You Came From.
Akibrus' mother died in his teen years, killed by his 'father'. She had told him that the man was not his father; he had no father as far as she was concerned. Aki witnessed his mother's death, and very swiftly ensured his 'father' met the same fate. This led to him being on the run, for his father was a very respected Grey Warden in the Anderfels. From the Anderfels to Nevarra, where he dove into his magic lessons at the young age of fourteen. Life was hard though, on his own.
Aki took to theft and doing magic to get by. Eventually, he stole the wrong thing—a Nevarran royal had an Elven artefact (this turns out to be a Evanuris foci) and Aki makes off with it. He fled the capital of Nevarra for smaller villages and towns, refusing to give up the foci. It's important and he can't explain why. He finds out someone is chasing him; has a run-in with the Reaper for the first time, and almost loses.
Instead, they face off and come to a tactical stalemate. Aki disappears into Antiva and then Rivain, avoiding the Reaper. He learns the art of creating nullification amulets whilst in Rivain.
Somewhere, I Got Confused
Somewhere in the chase, the thrill of the hunt, a game of cat and mouse turned into a... game of wills. Which one of them would break first? He won't tell you because he likes teh secrecy of it all. But now, he knows the Reapers name and moreoften than not finds himself in the Reapers bed. They're thieves for a while, before settling in Starkhaven with their little chosen family.
By the time they settle in Starkhaven, Aki works under the now deceased Divine as an apprentice. He continues her research after her death, and spends a lot of time perfecting his necromancy.
