Dog Lover
Grim absolutely adores anything in the canine family. If it were up to him, he would adopt every stray dog and puppy he came across. He's kept that number to two. A mabari named Floki that fights by his side and a miniature pinscher named Cheese Ball.

Grunts McGee
If he doesn't know you, odds are you'll only get grunts out of him, head nods, shrugs, etc until he decides if he likes you or not. Though, even with his close friends, he still most of the time just speaks in grunts, especially when out around other people, but one on one that is a different story and he has opened up a bit to some of his friends in the Chargers, though most of them don't know his full back story.

HISTORY

A happy childhood
Growing up in the Sunless Lands might not have seemed like a place one could have an ideal childhood, let alone a happy one. Although it was brutally cold most of the year, it was a place that Grim grew up happy to call home. Then again, it was the only home he knew. He was the favourite child of his parents and next in line to be king, so no expense was spared on his education and training.

Sibling Rivalry & Tragedy Strikes
He and his younger brother Geirthjof did not get along at all. Geirthjof was arrogant and believed from a fairly early age that he should be the elder. It got to where Geirthjof would even try to cause Grim harm. He would then try to play off as just youthful antics. When Grim was 14, their mother died in tragic circumstances that seemed like an accident, but Grim believed it had been an accident perpetuated by his brother that was meant for him, not their mother.

Childhood Sweetheart
As a teenager, Grim met Sigrun, and it was practically love at first sight. They started dating while they were still teenagers, and as soon as he was old enough, he proposed to her and they got married.

Life as a Jarl
Not long after coming of age and getting married, his father made him and his brother Jarls, partly because he wanted his sons to have a better understanding of what it meant to lead people. His brother took this as a sign that there was hope he could be named heir over Grim. Grim was a good and fair leader, though it wasn't a life he cared about having. He'd have been just as happy to have a small home and just focus on his wife and family.

Brother exiled
As his father aged, he saw how cruel and awful his youngest son was and so he officially named Grim as the heir to the throne. Not long after that, Grim's brother went on a rampage of anger and revenge that resulted in him being stripped of all titles and banished from the Sunless Lands.

Father's Death - Next in Line
At twenty-six, his father died, and he took on the responsibilities of being King. There were days he wished his brother hadn't been such a horrible human being because Grim really didn't want to be King, but he knew he was the better choice and thus bore the responsibility.

Death and a Stolen Throne
After a year of reign, things seemed to go really well. What Grim didn't know, however, was that his brother was still conspiring to take the throne. With a force of hired mercenaries, his brother led a surprise attack on Grim's village. Many were slaughtered, including Grim's sister, his wife, and his two children. At least he believed them all dead. Grim's brother took the throne by force and believed his brother Grim to be dead in the slaughter. In reality, a trusted servant got Grim, who was near death and unconscious, to safety and out of the Sunless Lands.

Exploring Thedas
After recovering, Grim wasn't sure what to do with himself. There was a powerful part of him that wanted to go back and get revenge on his brother, but another part of him that knew it wouldn't bring his family back to him. He took to just travelling around a lot, going by the name Grim, and doing most of his speaking in grunts.

Horns Up
About a year into travelling, Grim met Iron Bull and the Bull's Chargers. He confided some of his past to Bull and, as he's gotten to know some of the other members, he's opened up to them a bit. Still, when he's in a very public place or speaking to people he doesn't know well, he sticks to grunts.

Down with the Veil
A formerly silly trinket that had been passed down in his family turned out to be a shard of Ghilain'nan and took possession of his body. He's not as strong as he'd like to be and sometimes loses control of his body/has black outs. It's also caused his personality, even when he is in control, to be volatile and unpredictable. Since then, he's quit the chargers and is doing his best to help wherever he goes.

A Bounty Hunter
For months now, bounty hunters have been coming after him. Apparently, his brother decided exile wasn’t enough and put a price on his head. Most of them weren’t an issue, except Vassenia. He’s not sure what to make of her, though.

Personality

Grim used to be a lot more outgoing and extroverted before everyone in his life died and his brother overthrew him. Since then, he suffers from social anxieties and has serious trust issues. There is a strong sense of wanting to do good in him, even when it would be easier to just walk away, which was what led him to the Bull’s Chargers in the first place. Even after leaving the Chargers, he’s drawn to doing good, and when people can’t pay, he doesn’t turn them away. Though he often takes payment in the form of food for his dogs. He doesn’t have patience for idiots, or powerful men that take advantage and abuse their people.
