Eriar was born as she is: large, draconic flight wings, large horns over her head, and a long, heavy dragon-like tail. Her mother died during childbirth and Ghilan'nan, herself, extracted Eriar from the womb. Her Spirit was summoned at that moment, saving the dying infant from her fate.
