TIMELINE

The Ships Always Sailing

Chip was born to a Dalish elf woman, who did not want children, but she had promised her close friends that she would carry their children for them. From the moment the babe stopped nursing, his biological mother became "auntie", and his parents were his "daddies". Seven years after Chip came his little sister, his other half, Xochiquetzal. They were seven years apart, and they were best friends from the second her little lungs released her cries upon the world.

Chip grew up protective of his sister. They lived in a small Elvhen clan that was solely based upon the Amaranthine Ocean; they lived on a bunch of boats, whenever their population grew, so did their boats. The Keeper, Chip's father, was always upon the largest boat which was treated as a social hub. The family lived in the center of the fleet, every other elvhen family had their own little flotilla that was managed by the head of that particular family. They were nomads, ferrying shem across the waters, living off of the waters and their own skills.

Chip was there for his sister, teaching her everything she'd need to survive upon the waters. He was a mage, who displayed magic at a very young age, though so had his fathers and his auntie, so it was no surprise.

And Then I Lost It...

Chip witnessed the death of most of his birth-clan, all but Inala. This fact ultimately led them to having their daughter, who was named for his sister. Chip promised himself that someday, he would bring his daughter back to their oceanic roots. Someday, he'd be able to recreate what was lost; though nothing and nobody can replace his sister. A child born from grief, Chip promised himself that she'd never know the kind of loss that he and her mother did.

It's for this reason, if asked why he only has the one child, he'll just shrug and offer a sad smile.

Be Still My Old Heart

Xochipilli and the remainder of his clan left the oceans behind to move on-land, as he took up the mantel of Keeper of Varahel. When they finally broke up, Chip did not shun the mother of his child, and his sisters' best friend. Instead, they co-parent their daughter in a healthy fashion, and have stayed close friends over the years. There's some small part of Chip that wonders, if Chi were still here, would he and Inala have worked as a couple? Would Xochitl exist?

It's not something he lingers on too much, ignoring what his heart might want in favor of ensuring his daughter never knows fear, or pain, or grief. It's caused him to be a bit of a helicopter parent, though he does recognize that the only way to truly grow is to understand the world around you and the only way you can learn the world around you is to make mistakes.
